Snow Storm Thoughts

The snow storm came, dumped and left Long Island headed to other areas. Like many other Long Islanders, I shoveled for a good portion of the day. I started around 7:30 am and did my last pass on the walk sometime around 4pm. It was a lot of snow, the two guys walking past half way through who stopped to assist me and the advils around 8:30 really helped! Yes I’m getting older.

Yesterday seeing the posts on facebook made me think about what this snow storm really meant. Many were excited for the snow, some not. Most spent a good portion of their day either nestled in their house or doing a snow activity like sledding or shoveling. I enjoyed doing both. From a cup of hot tea, ginger lemon, too watching my son Jake make snow angels, the day was rewarding.

I’ve concluded that yesterday was an act to make us fast paced, up tight, East Coasters chill out. Sure we have days off, but they’re usually packed with errands we didn’t do during the week or events that we need or want to attend. Yesterday came without planning and really forced many of us to be slow down or even stop. Sure some of us found busy work and that’s ok. I chose to make the best of the day limiting my crackberry activity and taking the cue from mother nature to just be.
